It’s all about points and placements these weeks. Elimination versus success. Literally. Some guys fight to stay alive in the FedExCup Playoffs while others fight for at ticket to the Ryder Cup. Some even fight for both.
With Tiger shooting 65 in the first round of Barclay’s, the debate about his place in the US Ryder Cup team re-enters. Forget about the 74 on Friday – the debate is on. You could ask yourself, that if Tiger is on his way back to his old self, is that a good thing for the US team or the European team? So far, he has done little over the years to contribute to the US triumphs in Ryder Cup.
And how about that strong European Ryder Cup team? It looks like Monty is in a bit of a pickle when some of his key players abandon his as they rather want to secure a spot in the PGA Playoffs than on the European Ryder Cup team. We are looking forward to see how the Scot solves that one on Sunday.
In the US Phil Mickelson still fails to grab that chance for a number one spot in the world. Actually, he hasn’t been playing like a potential #1 since he has had the chance. And Tiger hasn’t deserved the top spot in almost a year now. Maybe that world ranking is a bit off? That’s another debate.
Fact is that on Sunday the LPGA can produce the fourth player to take the number one-spot in the world in as many weeks this. Talking about a close point system. Also, Wie can win her second title on tour – if she can keep herself from a DQ in the last two rounds.
It’s great stuff.
